Birddog (Bill Santen) (Lexington) Chris Mills (Chicago) Our first show was a singer-songwriter doubleheader. The drummer for both was Glenn Kotche, who's now making music as part of Wilco. A great start.

Grievous Angels (Tempe, AZ) Nov. 18, 1997 We built a big temporary stage in the hallway of South Hill Station and used it for several shows; one of the few nice things about that location.

Alejandro Escovedo (Austin, TX) May 22, 1998 Original date for this show was in March but had to be cancelled due to tour problems. Escovedo promised he would do a show for us, and he was true to his word.

The Blacks (Chicago) Nov. 18, 1998 Sexy, alt-country-glam, from a band that sadly is no more. One member later played here as part of Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire.
Outhouse Raiders (Kentucky) Dec. 4, 1998 Local one-shot "supergroup" with members of Taildragger, the Yonders and Crown Electric, with special guest Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters. Show was sponsored by ACE Magazine to promote their Christmas compilation CD.
BR5-49 (Nashville) March 24, 1999 Our first major-label band, and a great show (part of our 4th anniversary celebration).

Bernie Worrell of Funkadelic Bernie planned to jam on his keyboard, accompanied by music being played on the store's stereo system. Unfortunately, the stereo fried in the middle of his set. Someone in the audience got a boom box, another brought in his saxophone, and the show went on. Bernie was patient and genial, a real gentleman.

Original Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers (Mark Olson and Victoria Williams) April 14, 2001 This had the feeling of a down-home acoustic jam in someone's living room. The percussionist did hand-drumming on an upside-down five-gallon pickle bucket that we used to hold posters.

Richard Buckner (California) Oct. 8, 2002 This was booked and promoted as a regular show (the musicians were paid!) and about 50 people showed up for the free concert. Richard's new CD "Impasse" was released the same day, so it was nice to have him for what could be billed as the "National CD Release Show." Kathleen wowed the crowd with a short opening set; a few months later she became a big name on NPR/AAA radio.
